The Kingdom of Jesus

A Devotional Study in Matthew

Jesus Loves to Work!

Matthew 4:23-25

Jesus loves to work as we see by how His ministry took off in Galilee. In just these 3 verses we see summed up all that He did; teaching in their synagogues, preaching the good news of the kingdom, healing every disease and sickness among the people.

News about Him spread all over Syria, (a neighbouring country) and people brought to Him all who were;
ill with various diseases,
suffering severe pain,
the demon-possessed, the epileptics, and paralytics, and Jesus loved to work at healing all of them.

Large crowds from Galilee, the Decapolis (Ten Cities), Jerusalem and Judea, and the region across the Jordan, all followed Him.

(And I thought I was busy!)

This means Jesus' ministry was not just a wandering around looking for things to happen. He had a purpose and plan, and He made room in His life for the success of that plan. That is, Jesus taught, preached and healed, and the more that came to Him, the more He did this. It doesn't take much to observe that Jesus loved to work then. Jesus still loves to work this way in the lives of people today, only now He uses us to do it. If we are available.

What are the implications for my busy life? And yours? To be used by the Lord God, to do the things Jesus loves to work, I need to know what my purposes are, keeping them simple, and then clear my agenda to get just those things done. - Oh-but I LIKE some extraneous details and activities, don't you?. Can't we keep a few for our own pleasure and relaxation?

Oh-oh. Things brings us into a controvsial area. Some mature, godly Christians will insist that we need to be fully devoted to doing God's will, and to die to self. There are other Christians who argue that we must keep a balance in our lives, and make sure we take time for ourselves. There are times I have leaned both ways. Yet, when I study the Bible and earnestly want to know the Lord's true answer, I see that He expects us to be fully surrendered to Him. Then I realize that He loves us and looks after us, and will give us periods of rest and refreshment in our lives. The key is to trust God utterly!

PRAYER: Lord, what exactly is my main purpose in this life and world? I see if I do only that, I should have enough time to get it done. It's those extras I keep adding which crowd me; I need Your strength to trim them out. The promises and commitment I've made make that appear impossible or very painful.

God's Purpose for me        Works I've added...
